Books in Fishes

Since books were so important to me as a child (and an adult) and are such a major part of the book, and because I’m the sort of person who loves getting book recommendations from other books, I’ve put together this annotated bibliography of books that appear in my book. The titles link to amazon.com if the books are still in print. You may also order them directly from your favorite bookstore or via booksense.com, which will link you with an independent bookshop in your area.

CHAPTER 6-10

CHAPTER SIX: THE FACE IN THE TREE
Alice in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll

This book gets under your skin. I haven’t re-read it in at least fifteen years, but I still remember it vividly and can recite much of the poetry from it by heart. I apparently wasn’t the only one who found it disturbing. Gahan Wilson’s short story “The Sea Was Wet As Wet Could Be” in the anthology Blood Is Not Enough features the Walrus and the Carpenter, and is one of the creepiest stories I’ve ever read.
CHAPTER EIGHT: FIRST DAY AT HOLY WOUNDS
The textbook containing the poem “Mani Mao” is real, but I don’t have it any longer and was unable to track down the title or author.
